Call for Interest | 2024 Manfred Lachs Moot Court Competition Sapienza Team

About the Competition

Each year, the European Center for Space Law (ECSL) organises the European Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.

The regional winners from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, North America and Latin America then compete in the World Finals, which are held in conjunction with the annual IAF International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and judged by three sitting judges of the International Court of Justice.

The European Regional Round

For the Regional Round, the competition consists of two phases:

  • The first one is dedicated to the legal analysis of the case and requires each Team to submit two written pleadings, one on behalf of the applicant and one on behalf of the respondent (September 2023 – January 2024).
  • After that, the team will prepare for the oral part of the Regional Round (January 2024 – March/April 2024).

Key responsibilities of the Team members

  • be a student from Sapienza University;
  • attendance of the Course of Space Law of Prof. Marchisio during the first semester of A.Y. 2023/24;
  • participation in meetings with the Coaches;
  • conducting of research on international law and space law, in particular on the legal aspects concerning the Moot Court case;
  • drafting of Memorials in good legal English and preparing for the oral pleadings.
