Exchange of letters between UNOOSA and Italy regarding OSL Team’s contribution to the Space Technical Advisory Mission to the Kingdom of Morocco

  • 9 November 2024

The Sapienza OSL Team proudly acknowledges the exchange of letters between Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and H.E. Ms. Debora Lepre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to the United Nations in Vienna. This correspondence highlights the OSL Team’s significant role in the Space Technical Advisory Mission (TAM) to the Kingdom of Morocco, organized by UNOOSA on September 26, 2024.

This mission marked the concluding conference for the two-year Outer Space Law for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (OSL) Project, led by the Sapienza University Team under the scientific guidance of Prof. Sergio Marchisio (OSL Project—Outer Space Law for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development).

The OSL Project aimed to develop national space legislation aligned with sustainability objectives. During the TAM, Prof. Marchisio highlighted the importance of enacting international obligations related to the authorization and continuous supervision of private space activities, as well as ensuring equitable liability-sharing for damages caused by space objects between private operators and states.

Experts from international organizations, national space agencies, universities, private companies, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Defense Administration contributed diverse perspectives, engaging in a productive discussion with valuable questions and insights. The event was a resounding success.
