The OSL Team proudly congratulates its Lead, Sergio Marchisio, for receiving a truly unique and evocative prize: a chessboard adorned with an astronaut, in recognition of “His active contribution to the advancement of space law activity in Italy, with appreciation for his leading European and international engagement.”

Sergio Marchisio and the OSL Team extend their heartfelt gratitude to Rear Admiral Pio Forlani for his exceptional coordination and leadership of the IV National Space Geopolitics Conference, Alza la prora e volgila allo spazio, held on 12 December 2024 at the Auditorium Porta del Parco in Naples, Italy. We also thanks the organizing institutions – Club Atlantico di Napoli, Distretto Aerospaziale Campano, Italian Space Agency, European Space Agency, and Centro Studi Militari Aeronautici – for orchestrating such a significant and inspiring event.

Marchisio had the privilege to deliver a Lectio Magistralis at this distinguished gathering, reflecting on the parallels between the 17th-century maritime revolution and the current transformative era of space exploration. In his address, he also paid tribute to the visionary Rolando Quadri, whose pioneering work in cosmic law serves as a reminder that legal principles must continually evolve alongside technological innovation and practice.

The conference panels were a source of rich and thought-provoking dialogue, delving into the legal and geopolitical dimensions of space exploration, the growing role of private actors, and opportunities for innovation. Marchisio shared the stage with distinguished experts as Marco Ferrazzani (ESA), Talitha Vassalli di Dachenhausen (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II), Marco Aliberti (European Space Policy Institute), Vincenzo Giorgio (CEO, ALTEC), David Zucconi (CEO, SAB Aerospace), Sara Mesco, and Mattia Barbarossa (Sidereus Space Dynamics).
